McKay Turns 5

McKay turned 5 years old on June 26. We decided to have a water party in our backyard despite all the construction going on. It worked out well but a lot of work. It was windy that day so the kids got cold but seemed to have fun anyway. They ate hot dogs, played in a kiddy pool and slip and slide, and decorated cupcakes. That night we ate out at Sizzlers as a family and opened presents. McKay got a collection of Lego's, a Razor Scooter, a fishing game from Erica, and lots of toys from the kids at his party. It was a fun day!!!

Garage Addition Update

These pictures are out of order. Where we are now with the garage are the first few pictures and the last two are of Kory just starting to build the walls. Kory has worked really hard and has come a long way with the garage. It is fun to see what it is all now going to look like. Still have a lot more to do.

A window is going in the spot where the long hole is.

Starting out.

Bathroom Update

Okay, this picture has nothing to do with our bathroom update, McKay's hair was getting so long that we would often make it very spiky.

The hard working men laying our tile.

After all the tile was done, we had some professional drywallers and texture people come and fix our walls.

Here is the finished product so far. We still have some touch-up painting to do, the glass door on the shower put on, and the endless sealing of the grout.

Bathroom Update

This is a crazy project. Kory and Kirk have worked really hard so far and many late nights. One night Kory was up doing the plumbing and did not get to bed till 5:20 a.m.!!! Things are coming along slowly and Kirk promises it will get done within the next 2 days. We have made numerous trips to Lowe's and Home Depot, have had a water leak that came down into our garage, dust from the sheet rock covering our home, and dirty floors I vacuum and wipe up each day; however, through all of this, we are extremely grateful for our friends who one is a plumber and came over to help Kory and the other is our wonderful tile layer Kirk. We have been blessed to have such wonderful people come to help us. And as Kory constanly reminds himself and me that "It will be worth it."

What a mess.

This is our shower before we did this project.

This is the shower now. This is where our toilet is going.

Here is the bottom of our new shower which is where the toilet used to be. Switching these two around, our shower is now a lot bigger but a huge amount of work.

Top of the new shower. Hopefully in our next pictures it will have tile if all goes well. Cross your fingers.

Update on Projects

Kory just recently laid the concrete floor for the garage.

Concrete for the side of the garage.

This was a lot of work and Kory is exhausted. He also is suffering from a sinus infection and toothache. Time to rest.

Before the cement, Kory worked on our landscaping and went to a BLM pit and gathered some lava rocks for our front yard.

Placing the rocks.

It was a lot of work moving the dirt around and getting things ready for the cement.

The kids had a lot of fun outside watching their daddy.

We went over to Jared and Michelle's home for a Bar-B-Que on Memorial day. We ate and watched movies.

We have to stop working on our garage for a week or so because we have another big project lined up. We are changing some things in the Master Bathroom. We are going to do some major remodeling by switching our toilet to where the shower is and moving the shower to where the toilet is so we can make a walk-in tile shower. We were not planning on doing this till the garage was done but our friend from high school who does tile work for a living is coming up to help us and can only come during this one week. We decided to go for it.

Prepping the bathroom for a mess ahead and lots of changes.

Demolition time. Kory likes this kind of work.

Kory has a lot of plumbing, wiring, and wall moving to do.

Kory's Big Project

We are making some big changes around our home. We are doing some new landscaping and making our garage bigger. To save quite a bit of money and to give Kory something to do, we are doing almost everything on our own. It has been fun so far and a lot of work and we have dirt everywhere, but it will be great in the end.

Kory rented a digger so we can dig out the footings for our garage extension.

Kory and his big toy.

I even was able to help a little by digging out some dirt for a new sidewalk.

This is where our new sidewalk and landscaping will go some day. We are curving it from our back yard to the front. This is the before picture.

This is the after picture and it still looks like this.

This is the side of the garage before picture.

This is the after picture after digging the foundation.

This is what it looks like now with the foundation poured.

This is behind the garage where the biggest extension is going to go. This is the before picture.

This is the after picture.

This is what it looks like now.
We had a little help from some professional cement layers to help with this part of the cement. McKay really liked watching the cement truck come to our home. Now the rest is up to Kory. He is going to build the rest. What a project!

They are ready for the hot summer sun and Jared and Michelle's swimming pool.

Motorcycle

Leif and Julie gave us this motorcyle many years ago when McKay was just little. The battery never worked and McKay was afraid of it for a long time so it just sat in our garage along with Kory's motorcyle. Finally one day Kory bought a battery for it and McKay just loves it, along with the other kids in the neighborhood.
